The economy takes another victim

Thinking 'that will never happen to me' does not make you immune to reality, let me tell you! Ever since the economy started going down the tube all you hear or read about is the rising unemployment rate and the plummeting stock market. I never paid attention because I thought, oh that will never happen to me. Well it did. The store that I have been working at, running, putting my life into has decided to close in less than 2 weeks. It makes me angry because it's a family owned business and this HAD to be something they were planning on for a while but just never let anyone know. It sucks because if they had hinted to us that the closing of the store was a possibility, we all could have planned better. I'm sorry but 2 weeks just doesn't give you enough time to get things secure for yourself...not even in a thriving economy. I would have thought twice about frivolous purchases and contributed more to my savings account instead of funding my closet. It's definitely a reality check. I know I had decided to put myself on a shopping ban but now I REALLY understand how important it is to secure your well being FIRST. I guess everything happens for a reason. I was planning on going back to school anyway and now this just makes me want to do it even more. On the plus side, I'll have time to do somethings that I've wanted to do for a while and not have to worry about if it will conflict with my work schedule (umm since I won't have one) and take time to relax since I've been working or going to school non stop since I was 14. I know it's going to be weird for the first week or two since I'm always on a time schedule and soon I won't have anywhere to be. I'm so lucky that I don't have any kids or anyone else to worry about except myself. I have a wonderful boyfriend that is just so supportive and amazing and great friends & family too. Hopefully this is just happening so something better can come along. We can only hope.

Fake bake

So now everyone is in a frenzy about tanning beds and how they are just as dangerous as arsenic (cigarettes, pretty much), Hep B & according to Perez, chimney sweeping. Obviously anyone that's ever tanned before knows there are risks that come along with it such as skin cancer, eye cancer, melanoma, etc. But tanning has become a habit for most people just as much as smoking cigarettes has for others. I enjoy my 15 minutes in a tanning bed a couple times a week and unfortunately, these 'recent findings' aren't going to stop me. Is that wrong? Who knows. I wouldn't dare smoke a single cigarette but tanning to me just doesn't seem THAT bad. What's the difference if I go in a tanning bed for a couple minutes 3 times a week or if I'm baking my skin outside on the beach or at the pool? It's all UVA/UVB and it's all damaging. Oh well. We're all gonna die of something, might as well be from doing something you enjoy LOL! What's your take?

I've been banned!

I've come to realize that most of my income after bills are paid goes towards clothing purchases and such so I've put myself on a shopping ban. For one whole month I cannot buy any clothes/shoes/accessories or anything else I really don't NEED. This is going to be especially difficult since I am going on vacation at the end of the week and my birthday is at the end of the month. Oh well I guess this will show how much willpower I have. All the $$ I'd normally spend on clothes is going into savings. Besides, I'm sure I have enough to get me through the summer and the good fall stuff isn't even out around here yet. There are some things I need yet for fall but they can wait until it starts getting cooler which probably won't happen until mid September. In the meantime I will build my fall wish list but only with things I absolutely need for the season.

Lusting after...

J.Crew Schoolboy Blazer

I love this blazer so much. I just can't justify spending $178 on it right now even though I'm sure it would be a staple in my wardrobe. Ohhh maybe I will be lucky enough to find something similar at a nicer price :)

TGIF

It's Friday and that means only 5 hours left until my 5 day-in-a-row working in solitude for 9 hours a day ENDS! Of course I have to work a couple hours tomorrow but my lovely P.A. Dana will be closing up shop so I can get outta here! My BFF and I are hitting up a vintage consignment shop tomorrow afternoon to see if they have anything good. I'm hoping to find some neat blazers and maybe some Manolos that will fit my fat foot. We shall see. The rest of the weekend is just going to be for relaxing with some wine.

Have a great weekend!

Getting back into the swing of things

Work has been super slow and the other manager is on vaca this week so I get the pleasure of working 6 days this week. That's fine with me I guess since next week I only have to work 3 and a half days then I'm off to gorgeous Myrtle Beach for 8 glorious days.

I can't believe how fast this summer has been going. I just realized that when I made my fall wishlist. I actually can't wait to start shopping for fall since it's my favorite time for fashion. On the top of my fall wishlist is a house, of course. House hunting is definately an experience and quite stressful when you get to thinking of all the things that go along with it. The BF has his needs in a house...a decent amount of land and a 2 car garage minimum. Me on the other hand...I just need a BIG closet. Right now everything is shoved together...in different closets, drawers, under the bed, etc. Now I'm the kind of girl that needs all her clothes on hangers and organized to be able to plan out outfits. I never store away winter clothes in the summer and vice versa. Even though I've been warned to not bring another shopping bag home until we have a house of our own, I just can't help myself. :) Some recent purchases that will be arriving via UPS today...

The times, they are changin'

I've been on blog hiatus the past 2 months. So much has been going on and I haven't had much time. Every season, a girl will go through her closet. Keep what's important, toss what's not...a complete re-arrange. Well, that's what I've done with my life. Got rid of the bad, kept what was already great and found something completely amazing. I'm moving this weekend. Out of where I was stuck for the past 5 years and back to where I belong and back to ME. I've never been so happy with life and can't wait to just enjoy it all. I also got myself a new digi cam so of course new pics are to come!

Beauty Faves

Photobucket

Favorite Mascaras (in no particular order):
1. Chanel Inimitable $30
2. MAC Plush Lash $12
3. CoverGirl Lash Blast $7
4. Dior Maximeyes $23
5. Px False Lashes $19.50

Since I worked in the beauty industry for a couple years I've been able to try out TONS of different beauty products. Mascara to me is a makeup necessity. When shopping for a new mascara, I always look for something that will give me a false lash look without the false lashes of course. I am pretty lucky to already have nice lashes but to me the bigger, the better. I've been a designer brand makeup snob for the longest time and just recently tried CoverGirl's Lash Blast and it is AWESOME! My main concern was flaking and smudging and to my surprise, there was none. The brush for Lash Blast is different from your ordinary mascara brush. If you've ever tried Chanel Inimitable, it is a lot like that for about $23 less. If you haven't already tried it and are looking for a great mascara, I suggest you go to the nearest drugstore and get some ASAP!

Wild Child

Today was the first day in a long time that the weather was enjoyable and it's only going to get better within the next couple days. Mid 60s & sunny. I left work a couple hours early since I had to go in for a few hours yesterday. Of course I couldn't wait to open every window in the apartment. The grass was just cut and I loooooove the smell of fresh cut grass. My zebra tube dress that I ordered in December finally got some use today. I just love the simplicity of a dress no matter what style. This entire outfit all the way down to the shoes is from F21...funny.

April showers better bring May flowers...

The weather in the Valley lately is horrible. Cold, rainy, super windy. This is NOT ideal spring weather. It's actually quite depressing. Last week I ordered a bunch of spring/summer clothes online that should be arriving tomorrow. Three dresses, two pairs of sandals, a pair of sunglasses for the beach, a top and a necklace. Over the weekend I popped into a few shops and picked up a slouchy brown handbag and a white short sleeve blazer. I'm not sure how I feel about the blazer though. The bottom of it it semi ruffle-like and comes out a little too far for my liking on the sides buuut I haven't tried it on as an outfit yet so maybe I will change my mind. I'd love to take pictures of everything but I am still without a good camera. The bf's camera is okay but the picture quality is so bad. I did get a few good pictures of some displays I did at work and some other randoms. Let's see...

Love Marchesa

Even though the Marchesa line has been around since 2004, I never really noticed until a couple months ago I was reading Vogue or InStyle and there was a page of Georgina Chapman's fashion picks. I really loved everything she chose and then all of a sudden, she's turning up in all these mags. Chapman is the co founder and designer for Marchesa and as far as I'm concerned, she can do no wrong. Not only are her designs for her line GORGEOUS but everything she wears is stunning. I love how she takes her own personal style and really uses it to influence her line. She's my new fashion icon.

Sex on Heels

I love when Neiman Marcus emails me just to add fuel to the fire. They're off to Christian Louboutin's pre fall trunk show and that has me pondering draining my savings account for these beauties. Since that's not an option for me I will just have to wish they were in my closet. If you're feeling generous and want to purchase any of these for me, I will gladly give you my size and mailing address. :-)

Christian, you have my heart...

Breathe and reboot...

This has not been a good week for me. I'd say the worst week all year. For starters my car was vandalized in the parking lot of my apartment complex Wednesday night and then someone hit it in a parking lot Thursday afternoon. My computer crashed mid week and I lost EVERYTHING. The worst thing about that is trying to get all my iTunes set up again. No...I'm not the girl that backs up her work (umm Carrie Bradshaw much?) so now I'm stuck wasting time trying to get everything back in order. My digital camera is completely shot as well. Now I'm stuck using the boyfriend's digi cam circa 2004. I guess it's better than nothing until I can get a new one. I didn't even go shopping ONCE all week :(. Hopefully this week will be much better than last week. I have some work to do for some upcoming events at the store and at the end of the week I am treating myself to some shopping. I've got a list going of some things I need to add to my wardrobe. Here's the last picture that came out before my camera died. Just my causal outfit in a messy room...

To toss, or not to toss...

Happy April! I love Wednesdays. Not only do they give me the 'week's almost over & drinks on Saturday night' happy feeling but it's also one of my days off. Unfortunately the weather is not in my favor today to actually enjoy being outside so I've decided to start the project I've been avoiding for months. I am the definition of a clothing/shoe pack rat. I will keep anything and everything in the instance that one day I will find a reason to wear it again. I honestly have jeans (that I still wear and love) that I bought when I was in 10th grade...keep in mind I've been out of high school for almost 6 years. The downside to keeping all this stuff in my closet is that when I do go shopping I don't know what I should be buying to compliment my wardrobe because I've got so much in the closet at home. Then once I do get home with my purchases, I realize I needed this, this and this to go with it...and the 'this, this and this' are all things I don't have. I also have so many stupid Juicy Couture tee shirts...more JC tees than any one girl needs or even should have. The zinger to that is, I don't even wear them anymore! Ugh, ok enough! I am off to start my project! I wish my entire wardrobe looked like this...

Fresh Start

Welcome! I decided to start this blog after becoming so fascinated with all of these other blogs on the net. With the coming of April also comes warmer weather, flowers blooming and the light spring air...something I've been waiting for all winter. Figuring that spring is a perfect time to start something new, this blog will be dedicated to everything that I love about life.
I'm addicted to shopping and am always planning out a new outfit in my head. With my profession being an accessories buyer, you can see why shopping is always on the brain. That also gives a pretty clear idea of what this whole blog will be about so enjoy!
